ɫɫӰԺ has named Scott Travis the new Director of Admissions.
Travis has worked at Kettering for more than five years, starting in September 2013 as an admissions counselor. He has served in various roles in the Department of Enrollment Management and Marketing, including Associate Director of Admissions.
Travis earned his bachelor’s degree in 1997 at the University of Rochester in New York and his MBA at Kettering in 2017. For the first 15 years of his career, Travis was a collegiate rowing coach at several universities including his alma mater, Cornell University, Eastern Michigan University, and Michigan State University.
When Travis decided to change careers, he wanted to stay in higher education and in Michigan. Travis recognized similarities between athletic recruiting and recruiting students to a school like Kettering.
“The students looking into Kettering have specific talents and very specific needs,” he said. “The students here are of high caliber, are high achieving, and ambitious. They’re looking for something besides a generic, cookie-cutter college.”
Kip Darcy, Vice President of Enrollment Management and Marketing, said Travis will develop and coach the University’s front line admissions counselors as a part of the University’s larger enrollment strategy.
“Scott has a proven track record as a team lead and coach that is reflected in the quality of his guidance and energy,” Darcy said.
As ɫɫӰԺ Director of Admissions, Travis will continue to promote the institution as a prestigious university with a long legacy of engineering, and an innovative, forward-thinking approach to the STEM fields and business management. The College of Sciences and Liberal Arts and the School of Management both follow the same hands-on, co-op model of education that is synonymous with Kettering. Those programs, while unique in their own ways, provide opportunities to students just like the College of Engineering always has.
“We have new initiatives and a young energy on campus that I’m very excited about,” he said. “It’s an innovative atmosphere, with a strong entrepreneurial feel to it. This place is all about problem-solving. These students are learning to solve problems that have yet to come.”
